the storm in the northeast is winding down we are seeing travel delays. one of those being newark. if you are flying out you are looking at those flights and we have gusty winds in the northeast and obviously colder and temperatures are colder where they should be at tomorrow should be a relatively quiet day . that is going to double up in parts of the southeast tomorrow. and higher elevations and significant snowfall accumulationsed in the california sierra. and we are headed in to tomorrow . a new wave will be impacting parts of california . in areas to the south. and oregon cascade and sierras across portions of california. and impact. and by monday we'll have to have the storm in the southeast. and that is even in the northeast and it will be cold enough that people in the northeast. and that is in the form of snow . impacting christmas eve and christmas day could produce snow like in the texas panhandle and oklahoma and missouri and arkansas. they don't typically see a white christmas. this year it looks. and and linked with osama bin laden. newark dark 30. and his own review of the

that is the chairman of the department of medicine at newark beth israel medical center and he joins us now with more. thank you for joining us. >> thank you, heather. great to be here. heather: why are more people skipping these screenings? >> i think it is a question of economy for one thing. i think the tests are costly. there is also secondarily confusion among physicians what to do, what to scan, what tests and how often they should be performed. for example, let's take breast and mammography. a lot of physicians are confused about that. mammography should be done after age 50 and up to age 74 on a yearly basis. it should be done before the age of 50, say at 40, if you in fact have a first degree relative like a mother or grandmother who has had breast cancer or you have particularly dense breasts that is just one example. the insurance companies are not readily willing or perhaps able to pay for people to get breast screenings. another one is colonoscopy. it is recommended that you have a colonoscopy for average person every 10 years, say after the age of 40. five years for flexable for sigmoid

now, chairman of the department of medicine at newark beth israel medical center. what do you make of it? >> well, he's 88 years old. this is a president who's been in exceptionally good health. i mean, he jumps out of airplanes at the age of 85 which i thought was an absolutely amazing guy. i can recall his illnesseses over his life which included a thyroid problem, you remember when he was president. one worries about an 88-year-old who comes in with trach yo bronchitis with a chronic cough, perhaps a low-grade fever. gregg: what does that mean, pneumonia? >> yeah, well, it could mean knew known ya. bronchitis is an inin mission of the tubes that go into the lung, and you have trouble clearing mucus. you have trouble coughing, and coughing causes a lot of problems, so pneumonia is a possibility. and then when you're that old, you run the risk of a blood infection, and that can be lethal for somebody over the age of 75. gregg: what happens? >> it'll cause organ failure, and it is often times fatal. so i think the doctors are playing it safe. put him on antibiotics -- gregg: right.
